Goals come from ambition
Ambitions form the foundation of our dreams for the future.
But there’s a right and a wrong way to set your goals if you want to actualize them.
Why does goal-setting matter? Because our everyday actions should intentionally propel us closer to achieving them.
Take weight loss, for example; a clear goal evolves from desire into specific actions like adopting a healthy diet and regular exercise.
Here are the steps that have guided me in setting and realizing my goals:
1. Set goals with the SMARTER framework:
S- focus a single area with a clear outcome
M – Quantify or have a progress indicator
A – Ensure achievability
R –
T- Set realistic timelines
ER – Reflect on the core reasons why you want those goals.
2. Break goals into smaller milestones and develop an action plan to realize each goal.
3. Stick to your plan and take consistent action.
4. I write down my goals on paper to concretize them and inspire me to action. Whenever I have a setback, I’m directed by it.
5. If you’re still not sure what goals to set, write down your ideas, identify goals within them, and consider the ‘why’ behind each identified goal. What happens if you achieve or don’t achieve them?
Clear goals transform setbacks into opportunities rather than sources of frustration.
Let your ambitions drive you, but let your goals guide your actions towards turning dreams into reality.
